Our foundations program started with a weekly commitment of an Occupational Therapist, whose aim was the rehabilitation of children through the performance of activities required in daily life. We quickly determined that the children were eager to learn beyond the classroom. With the qualitative advancement of the children in reading and behavior, this inspired us to further investigate more intensive programs delivered by local professionals in Tijuana. In consultation with our educational partners, we committed to a laser-focused plan rooted in STEAM and delivered through Project Based Learning.
In 2015, Create Purpose launched the first phase of the Science curriculum, based on our commitment to the proven methodology of STEAM, with an Urban Agriculture pilot program in one orphanage. The program helps our children to learn the basics of today’s complex food systems and where they fit into the systems. We teach foundational skills of organic gardening and how to grow and harvest food that will come from their garden. Create Purpose is working collaboratively within the Tijuana community and the children are understanding the benefits of a network of support. There are several expansion opportunities that are planned based on the early success of the pilot.
Our technology program is a lean-in, practical approach to providing abandoned children with the tools for computer literacy and beyond. Using existing technology education platforms, local Tijuana experts in technology join forces with San Diego technology specialists to bring this one-of-a-kind learning experience to abandoned children.
We have made a commitment to provide abandoned children with a holistic learning experience. Programs that include Aquaponics, Financial Literacy and the Arts will be developed and announced when appropriate funding goals are met.
